McCarthy's Tea Room
Born in 1954 in Belfast and growing up in the County Antrim village of Lambeg, shop owner Neville Gardner like many exiles from the other side of the Atlantic yearned for many foods from home. With a father whose family (the Gardners ) who were originally of Scottish decent and a mother of Irish decent (the McCarthys) Neville grew up in a family of great cooks and bakers. A short time after Neville’s mother died in 1994 Donegal Square moved to its current location and the idea of opening a small restaurant to recreate many of the foods from the family recipes was born.
Granny McCarthys has captured the warmth and friendliness of a happy childhood in Ireland. Many of the foods you’ll find there are traditional recipes often with credit to the relative who owned the recipe. When Neville’s mother died he found a whole collection of recipes written on the back of envelopes and on pieces of note paper all held together by a rubber band. As Grannys has evolved we have have added a contemporary element found in many similar type restaurants in Ireland and the British Isles such as The Avoca Cafe, Bewleys and Betty’s Tea Rooms.

We do not have a liquour license, however we are a BYOB restaurant. We have wine glasses,wine openers and pint glasses for your use. Please feel free to bring your favorite wine or ale!!
